Discover Venetian History with us
Research. Public History. Cultural Heritage.
Sentieri della Storia is an Italian cultural association devoted to historical research and public history, with a particular focus on Venice and its Mainland State.
Through historical talks, research projects, educational activities and cultural events, we bring history beyond the archives and make it accessible to a wider audience.
ABOUT US
Bringing history beyond the archives
Sentieri della Storia is an Italian cultural association founded by historians Nicola Ruggin and Claudia Crescenzio, with a passion for historical research and public history.
Based in the Veneto region, our work focuses particularly on the history of Venice and its Mainland State, exploring political institutions, society, religion, everyday life, travel and the relationship between Venice and its territories.
Our aim is simple: to combine historical research with engaging storytelling, bringing the results of academic and archival research to a wider audience through talks, cultural events and educational activities.
We believe that history should not remain confined to archives and universities. It should return to the places and communities where it happened.
OUR RESEARCH & TALKS
From historical sources to stories worth telling
Our projects begin with historical questions and primary and secondary sources and develop into research, articles and public talks.
Our main field of interest is Venetian history, from the late Middle Ages to the early modern period, with particular attention to the expansion of Venice into the Italian mainland, its institutions and administration, waterways and trade, religious change, military history and everyday life.
Our research also explores broader aspects of European and Mediterranean history, including travel, pilgrimage and cultural encounters.
EVENTS & COLLABORATIONS
History, experienced together
Historical research comes alive when it is shared.
Sentieri della Storia organises historical talks, cultural evenings, educational activities and events in historic venues, bringing research directly to the public.
We have collaborated with municipalities, cultural associations, schools and local institutions, presenting history in libraries, cultural centres, historic buildings and other venues.
Our talks are designed for a general audience: historically rigorous, accessible and engaging, combining research, images, historical sources, stories and curiosities.
We are also interested in developing international collaborations with historical societies, cultural organisations, universities and other institutions interested in Italian, Venetian and Mediterranean history.
